Brief History of Assessment
Dakota State University has a long history of assessing student learning, dating back to 1995, when the institution’s first formal assessment plan was developed and approved by the general faculty.
The Assessment Coordinating Committee provides oversight for general education curriculum and assessment. The discipline faculty provide oversight of major-field curriculum and major-field assessment. The Assessment Coordinating Committee serves as a check-and-balance to college-based assessment activities at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
The University Curriculum Committee serves as a check-and-balance to college-based, undergraduate curriculum decisions and the Graduate Council provides a similar check-and-balance for graduate curriculum decisions made by the graduate program committees within the college.
