Goals of Academic Advising

Provide advisors and college staff with the necessary training and resources (e.g., online faculty advising training site) to promote student success
Collect and distribute data regarding student needs, preferences, and performance in order to make decisions and policy (i.e., placement reports, student advising survey data)
Provide information and planning tools (e.g., online student advising handbook) to enable students to accomplish their goals
Educate and empower students to take responsibility for making informed decisions
Assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans by providing guidance in extracurricular, curricular, and professional choices which are compatible with their life goals (developmental advising)
