Goals of Academic Advising
- Provide advisors and college staff with the necessary training and resources (e.g., online faculty advising training site) to promote student success
- Collect and distribute data regarding student needs, preferences, and performance in order to make decisions and policy (i.e., placement reports, student advising survey data)
- Provide information and planning tools (e.g., online student advising handbook) to enable students to accomplish their goals
- Educate and empower students to take responsibility for making informed decisions
- Assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans by providing guidance in extracurricular, curricular, and professional choices which are compatible with their life goals (developmental advising)
