Proctoring

Many Dakota State University distance course instructors require proctored exams.  In these cases, the student is responsible for securing an appropriate proctor (See document below).

Students living within the Madison area must use the proctoring services provided by the Extended Programs office at DSU.  Please contact proctor@dsu.edu or call toll free-800-641-4309 or local 605-256-5049 for information.

Arranging for a proctored examination:

Step One:  You must contact and secure a suitable proctor. You are responsible for any costs involved.

Appropriate Proctor:

  • Full-time faculty member of an accredited institution
  • Professional educator (superintendent or principal)
  • Human Resource professional
  • Elementary or high school teacher NOTE: You may not request a fellow teacher for proctoring
  • Community librarian
  • Military Officer
  • Other (only with instructor's permission)
  • Make sure to refer to DSU Proctor Guidelines and Policies for full details.

Unsuitable Proctor:

  • Co-workers
  • Friends, Relatives or Neighbors
  • Fellow Teachers

DSU has the right to contact a designated proctor to establish credentials.  DSU may at any time request additional verification or mandate an alternate proctor.  The proctor services may be terminated at any time by any or all three active parties (student, proctor, DSU) with written notice to all parties involved.

Step Two: Complete and submit the online form - Proctor Agreement for Distance Courses.

Step Three: Information submitted for the Online Proctor Agreement will be sent to your proctor for verification. Once your proctor verifies the information, it will be sent on to your instructor for approval.

Step Four: Contact your approved proctor to set up your exam days/times. if you will be using the DSU Extended programs Office, an email will need to be sent to proctor@dsu.edu to set up a proctor time for each exam. The DSU Extended Programs Proctor Schedule is posted above.
