2013 Spring Graduation

Spring Commencement is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 at the DSU Fieldhouse. The following information is provided to ensure that you and your family have an enjoyable day. Please note several important deadlines!

Notification Deadlines:

• If your situation has changed and you do not plan to graduate this semester, associate and bachelor degree students must notify Sandy Anderson, Registrar, (Sandy.Anderson@dsu.edu) and master's and doctoral degree students must notify Jennifer Mees, Graduate Program Assistant, (Jennifer.Mees@dsu.edu) IN WRITING by April 1.
• You are expected to be present at Commencement unless you notify the University. If you do not plan to participate in the Commencement ceremony, associate and bachelor degree students must notify Sandy Anderson at Sandy.Anderson@dsu.edu and master's and doctoral degree students must notify Jennifer Mees at Jennifer.Mees@dsu.edu IN WRITING by April 27.  

Academic Apparel/Announcements:

Academic Apparel (Associate's or Bachelor's): Purchase your cap and gown (black for bachelor and blue for associate) at the Trojan Center Bookstore any time Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between March 11 and May 3.   The cost of the cap, gown, and accessories is $36.99 plus sales tax. Items may be purchased individually at the following rates: gown-$16.99, cap-$13.99, tassel-$6.99, year tab-$1.99. 

Academic Apparel (Master's): Master's students will purchase their graduation apparel from the DSU Bookstore between March 11 and May 3.  The hood is $28.99 and the cap, gown, & tassel unit is $38.99 (plus sales tax).  Items may be purchased individually at the following rates:  gown-$19.99, cap-$13.99, tassel-$6.99, year tab-$1.99. 

Academic Apparel (Doctoral): Graduates in the doctoral program will need to rent or purchase the doctoral hood. Please contact the Bookstore for specific details as soon as possible, as the rental takes several weeks to arrive.

Graduation Announcements:Announcements may be purchased at the Bookstore. More information is available through the Bookstore.

Rehearsal:

A Commencement rehearsal will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 4:15 p.m. at the Fieldhouse. You are urged to attend this practice session so you will be familiar with the locker room location, the line of march, and the procedures for the ceremony. We will quickly walk through the hooding procedure during the rehearsal for the benefit of our master's and doctoral graduates.

Tickets:

Because of the large size of the spring graduating class and available seating in the Fieldhouse, each graduate will receive eight (8) tickets that can be used for their guests in the general bleacher seating. Tickets will be mailed in mid-April to all graduates at your local address. If you will not need all eight tickets, you may give them to another graduate who needs additional seating. Bleacher seating tickets may be exchanged for floor seating tickets for family or friends who are unable to sit on the bleachers. To arrange the ticket exchange, or to notify us of special needs (wheelchairs, hearing impairment, etc.) that we need to accommodate in our planning, please contact Linda at 256-5136 or Linda.Brozik@dsu.edu as soon as possible. (Keep in mind that the ceremony will be webcast live for family and friends who are unable to attend in person.)

Reception:

The Graduates' Reception will be held in the Dakota Prairie Playhouse convention center immediately following the Commencement ceremony. This reception is intended to provide an opportunity for you to relax and visit with family, classmates, and DSU faculty/staff while enjoying cake and punch.
