Policy

All students enrolled in associate and baccalaureate degree programs and teacher certification programs are required to participate in major field assessment per Board of Regents Policy 2:11. Students who have not participated in the major field assessment will not graduate. The design and implementation of assessment activities and the analysis and interpretation of results is the responsibility of the colleges.

Procedures

Each degree program will have an assessment plan that has been approved by the faculty in that discipline and that meets the University's guidelines for major field assessment. Each college will review the results of the previous year's assessment activities relative to major field goals, outcomes and criteria. The college will provide a summary report to the college faculty, Assessment Coordinating Committee and the Vice President for Academic Affairs during the spring semester. This report will highlight areas of specific strengths and concerns and will include an action plan with explanations. Recommendations for curricular changes will be forwarded from the college to the Curriculum Committee.

The Assessment Coordinating Committee is responsible for ensuring that each program has an assessment plan that meets the Guidelines for Major Field Assessment. The annual assessment reports will be included in the institutional program review self-study document and will follow the University's program review guidelines.
