This page is an alphabetic list of research databases available to Dakota State University students, faculty, and staff. Also included are "retired" print indexes located in the Mundt Library that can help when seeking older material.

Description: Provides scholarly and technical/trade articles in all functional areas of business and management (including accounting & auditing, economics, computer systems and information science, engineering management, finance and financial management, health care, law and taxation, management science, marketing advertising and sales management, personnel, banking, etc.)

Academic Search Premier (1965 - present)

Description: Indexes and abstracts journal articles on a broad range of topics and provides the complete text (text and graphics) of many of the articles it indexes. Aimed at undergraduates, it provides scholarly journal articles along with articles from popular, technical/trade, and substantial news sources

ACM Digital Library

Description: The ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) provides this source of bibliographic information, citations, and full-text articles about computing. It includes: ACM journals and magazines, ACM proceedings by subject, ACM proceedings by sponsor, ACM proceedings by series, journals and magazines by affiliated publishers, and resources from affiliated organizations.

Agricola (1970-present; and some older materials)

Publisher: National Agricultural Library
Description: Provides citations and abstracts for materials on all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, and earth and environmental sciences. Although AGRICOLA does not contain the materials, thousands of AGRICOLA records are linked to online full-text documents.

AncestryLibrary

Description: Provides instant access to more than one billion names in more than 3,000 databases, primary source documents, and a variety of genealogical research tools. These include digital images of the 1790-1930 U.S. Censuses, immigration, vital, court, church, and ethnic records, city directories, genealogical societies, Social Security Death Index, Periodical Source Index (PERSI), family history library, Civil War Pension Index, and 700 historical maps. AncestryLibrary also includes the Gale Group's Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, featuring published lists of .8 million passengers who arrived in America from the 17th to 19th centuries, and Biography and Genealogy Master Index, a database of more than 13 million indexed biographical sketches.

Description: This is an searchable index of current and older periodicals held by The Anthropology Library at the British Museum (incorporating the former Royal Anthropological Institute library).

BIOSIS Previews (1991-present)

Description: Life sciences and biomedical research from journals, meetings, books, and patents. BIOSIS Previews combines journal content from Biological Abstracts with supplemental, non-journal content, from Biological Abstracts/RRM (Reports, Reviews, Meetings). Access literature in such areas as pre-clinical and experimental research, methods and instrumentation, animal studies, and environmental and consumer issues.

Business News - Regional

Description: Provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.

Business Source Premier

Description: Provides full text for more than 8,500 scholarly business journals and other sources, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922.

Description: Offers art images that are rights-cleared for educational use; read CAMIO's "Terms of Use" for more information about allowed educational uses. Includes about 95,000 art images --photographs, paintings, sculpture, decorative and utilitarian objects, prints, drawings and watercolors, jewelry and costumes, textiles and architecture -- plus audio, video and mixed media.

Children's Core Collection

Description: "Children's Core Collection" provides information about and reviews of books selected and recommended by specialists in library service to children, including fiction and nonfiction works, story collections, picture books and magazines recommended for readers from preschool through sixth grade. Because you can search by subject, these databases are used to find recommended books that students can read as part of specific lesson plans.

CiteSeer : Scientific Literature Digital Library

Description: Free, full-text index of scientific literature (being Beta tested). In addition to citation for each article, provides "context" -- a sentence from the article in which the words occur. This database allows you to search both citations (i.e. is a citation index) and documents.

Clase and Periodica

Description: Provides bibliographic citations for documents published in 2,600 scholarly journals published in the Spanish, Portuguese, French and English languages. CLASE indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in the social sciences and humanities. PERIODICA covers journals specializing in science and technology.

CollegeSource Online

Description: Provides information about colleges and universities in the United States, including college catalogs and links to university websites. The Advanced search tool allows you to search for universities that meet specific criteria (such as size, cost, majors, public or private, etc.)

CQ Researcher

Publisher: CQ / Congressional Quarterly
Description: Each weekly issue of CQ Researcher focuses on a specific current, often controversial, topic such as "Health-Care Reform," "Campaign Finance Debates," or "Water Shortages." CQ Researcher is a good starting point for research because it provides an overview of the topic, charts and graphs, chronology of events, pro/con on some aspect of the topic, and a bibliography.

Deadwood Historical Newspaper Index (1876-1894)

Description: Indexes the various newspapers published in and around Deadwood,
South Dakota during the 1870's and 1880's. This index was developed by the Deadwood Public Library.

Digital Sanborn Maps 1867-1970 (historical maps of South Dakota communities)

Description: Provides detailed maps for more than 80 South Dakota towns from 1867-1970, including such characteristics as size and shape of buildings, construction materials, streets and sidewalks, and house numbers.

Includes word-searchable family and local history books, federal census records from 1790-1930, records of individuals who served in the Revolutionary War, and more. Freedman's Bank Records will eventually be added.

HighWire: Library of the Sciences and Medicine

Description: Provides full-text of many journals in medicine and science.  HighWire Press, a division of Stanford University Libraries, partners with influential scholarly societies, university presses and publishers to create a collection of the finest, fully searchable research and clinical literature online. Together, these partners produce nearly half of the 200 most-frequently-cited journals publishing in science. HighWire Press hosts the largest repository of free full-text life science articles in the world, with more than 600,000 free, full-text articles online.

Library Catalog of the Mundt Library

Description: This is the Mundt Library "card catalog," an index to all items that the Mundt Library owns or to which the Mundt Library subscribes (including online resources). The entire SD Library Network or other individual libraries in the Network may also be selected for search. Use this database to find books, videos, CDs, magazines, journals, newspapers, online resources, etc.

LyndaCampus (Lynda.com)
Location Restricted : LyndaCampus
Access:Unlimited number of users at one time.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS. If off-campus, you will go through two logins: first, you will login with your Library ID and password in order to authenticate your DSU status; then you will arrive at a LyndaCampus login window where you enter your Lynda username and password.
The first time you arrive at the Lynda login window, you must create a personal account in LyndaCampus by clicking on "Create Profile."

Description: LyndaCampus provides web-based software (and business topics) training with video tutorials on such subjects as Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Office, digital photography, Web design, digital video, and many others. Tracks your progress and provides certificates of completion.
