Research Databases:
Arranged by Subject, Type of Resource, and Audience

Are you looking for a few good articles on your topic? To get started, use the "Where do I start?" link on the left side of this web page. You can then return to this page to find additional research tools.

The purpose of this web page is to help you successfully complete your research assignments and projects by leading you to research databases:

  1. that focus on your discipline or subject area (for example, business, information systems, education). Use the list of subject areas in the "Contents" (below) to link to a list a research databases appropriate for your subject.
  2. that have a specific type of material (for example, e-books or photographs and other artworks). Use the type of resource section of the "Contents" to find such databases.
  3. aimed at unique audiences (for example, research databases for grades K-12). Go to the K-12 database list to find the K-12 databases.

Note: If the full-text of an article is not in the database you searched, it may be in print in the library or in another database. Use the Journal Finder to find out if the journal is available at the Library. If not, request a copy through Interlibrary Loan. Distance students may request any item which is not full-text online.

Description: Each weekly issue of CQ Researcher focuses on a specific current, often controversial, topic such as "Health-Care Reform," "Campaign Finance Debates," or "Water Shortages." CQ Researcher is a good starting point for research because it provides an overview of the topic, charts and graphs, chronology of events, pro/con on some aspect of the topic, and a bibliography.

Description: Indexes articles in the New York Times newspaper. Library has New York Times articles on microfilm 1857-1899 and 1967-present. Description: Overdrive provides downloadable eBooks and audiobooks which can be read on a number of different devices -- computers, mobile devices, and e-readers. The Mundt Library's Overdrive collections are focused on popular/bestseller fiction (mysteries, science fiction, romance) and nonfiction. The fastest way to get started is to use the MyHelp wizard near the top of the left navigation area. You will need to download software onto our devices to use audiobooks and eBooks. On the left side of the Overdrive window, scroll down the left side to "Getting Started" to find a list of compatible devices.

Description: Indexes journal articles and other documents in the field of education and is the premier database for education professionals. Journal articles are assigned identifier numbers that begin EJ, and documents are assigned identifiers that begin with ED. ERIC documents (ED) are typically reports or books.
If searching ERIC in EBSCOhost (Location 1 above), the full articles in many journals will be accessible along with full access to most ERIC documents. If searching ERIC on the ed.gov website (Location 2 above) journal articles found will typically have abstracts (summaries) but not the full articles. Journal articles identified in ERIC may be found in other full-text databases of the Mundt Library, in print at the library, or may be requested through Interlibrary Loan from the library. Most ERIC documents are available full-text through links directly from the ERIC Database.
