Scholarship Car Show
Dakota State University's College of Arts and Sciences will partner with State Farm Insurance to sponsor the fifth annual Scholarship Car Show in Madison on Saturday, July 25, in the Montgomery Furniture-Lewis Drug parking lot.
The car show will begin at 11 a.m. (with registration and setup at 10:00 a.m.), and it will conclude at 1:30 p.m. on Madison's Crazy Days Saturday. The show, to be held about one block from the corner of South Washington and Highway 34, is a fund raising event for the DSU Foundation, and all profits will go directly into student scholarships.
The registration fee is $15.00 and it includes lunch. Car collectors and everyone with interesting cars are encouraged to enter; there is no need to pre-register. All car enthusiasts should attend. There is no charge to view the cars.
The Madison Fire Department will prepare burgers, hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks for purchase.
In addition to major sponsorship for the car show from State Farm Insurance, additional support has been provided by Madison businesses including Bob's Electric, East River Electric, First Bank and Trust, Dr. Gerald Elpert, Great Western Bank, Madison Vision Clinic, Sturdevant's Auto Parts, and Sunshine Foods.
Forty-two trophies will be awarded. All winners will be determined by experienced judges' decisions.
The Scholarship Car Show, started in 2005, supports student scholarships in honor of Dr. Eric Johnson, Dean Emeritus of the DSU's College of Arts and Sciences, who retired after 38 years of teaching. Johnson, himself a car buff, plans to show several of his hot rods - including his newly finished 1923 Ford T-bucket. Anyone with questions about the show can email him at JohnsonE7@sio.midco.net.
Those who cannot attend the car show and who want to support the scholarship should call the DSU Foundation at 605-256-5693.
