DSU Hosts Cyber Defense Competition
Dakota State University will host the North Central Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) March 6 and 7 on the DSU campus in Madison. Dakota State is one of only 8 campuses in the nation to host such an event. This is the first time DSU has hosted the competition. Mr. Pat Engebretson, Instructor in the College of Business & Information Systems, is the North Central Regional Director.
CCDC allows teams of full-time collegiate students to apply their information assurance and information technology education in a competitive environment. The teams will be given an operational network from a fictional business complete with data, email, website, and users.
Each team will be required to correct problems on their network, perform business functions, and defend their network from cyber attackers.
Teams will be scored on their performance and the winning team will advance to the National CCDC in San Antonio, TX in April 2009.
Student teams from Montana Tech University, University of Wyoming, University of South Dakota, and the University of Sioux Falls will participate along with a team from Dakota State.
