Local Izaak Walton League Establishes Scholarship at DSU
The Madison Chapter of the Izaak Walton League has established an annual scholarship with the Dakota State University Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded to eligible family members of the Madison Chapter who are attending, or who are planning to attend Dakota State.
Jim Brown is the president of the Madison Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. “The local members wanted the money we raised in the community to stay in the community,” said Brown. “That is why we decided to give the scholarship to a DSU student.” The money for the scholarship is raised through the Izaak Walton Carnival held each year Madison.
Vice President for University Advancement Judy Payne said the scholarship is part of a groundswell of support for Dakota State from the surrounding area. “We are so pleased that the local Izaak Walton chapter has established this scholarship. It underscores the value the community places on having a nationally-recognized university right in their backyard.”
Payne also cited the recent study showing DSU’s $52.5 million economic impact on the surrounding area. “The economic impact study confirmed the partnership between the university and the community. That partnership is built in part on support from groups like the local Izaak Walton Chapter and so we are pleased to accept this scholarship and look forward to awarding it to deserving student in the fall.”
The first scholarship will be awarded in the fall of 2010. The scholarship agreement establishes an annual minimum $500 award.
