DSU Professor Publishes Textbook
John Nelson has recently published a textbook for teaching English to Chinese business students. Nelson is an Associate Professor of English at Dakota State University in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Working with several Chinese professors in Shanghai who teach business English, Nelson's efforts have resulted in the first volume of a four-volume set of textbooks. Titled College Business English Integrated Course, the student and teacher's textbooks are published in Beijing by Quinhua University Press, one of the most prestigious university presses in China.
Nelson, who teaches a variety of English courses at DSU, worked through email with fellow editor Cuiping Yang, a university professor in Shanghai. Nelson and other DSU professors have traveled to Shanghai to teach summer workshops to Chinese English teachers since 2001. Cuiping Yang was the primary host for DSU professors in their first visits, and she visited Madison for an extended stay in 2003. She is the primary editor of the text, working with the other editors, including Nelson, Ming-Fang Lin, Ya-Li Zhou, and Xin-Guo Ye.
With the first volume of the textbooks in print and the second completed, Nelson and the other editors are currently working on volume three of the set.
