DSU Announces Placement Rates
Dakota State University (DSU) announced a 95% overall placement rate for the graduating class of 2007-2008, with several programs achieving 100% placement.
Programs that achieved 100% placement included biology for information systems, business management, computer information systems, computer and network security, computer graphics, e-commerce, elementary education, English for information systems, general studies, health information technology, health information administration, office management and respiratory therapy (associate and bachelor degrees.)
Geographically, 80% of the graduates placed in their field chose to remain in South Dakota, up from 74% last year.
Dr. Marie Lohsandt, Director of Career Services at DSU states that in spite of the negative employment trends that parts of the country are experiencing, the class of 2008 ended their job search on a positive note. "I am very pleased that employers recognize the unique skill set that DSU graduates possess and that they continue to hire our graduates given the increased availability of experienced labor," says Lohsandt. "Although on a national level campus recruiting for entry-level employees is down, our office hosts an average of 50 companies annually and all indications are that it will remain constant in 2009. That speaks highly of DSU and its graduates. "
The data for the placement report is derived from follow-up surveys and direct contact with the graduation class of 2008. The placement percentages are based on graduates who report accepting employment related to their field of study.
