Dakota State University SIFE Receives Grant
The Dakota State University student organization Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) has been awarded a grant through Students Beyond Boundaries.
The grants are meant to encourage college students to use social media tools such as Facebook, Ning, Blogger, Flickr, YouTube, Wet Paint, and Twitter to support service-learning projects in their communities.
DSU SIFEs project is called "Domestic Violence Safe House." The project involves recruiting volunteers to build a fence around the new domestic violence shelter in Madison. The effort will be documented using various social media outlets.
The grants were announced by the Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education, which oversees the Students Beyond Boundaries project. The Consortium promotes, mobilizes, and supports the efforts of its members-a mix of public and private, urban and rural, small and large colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota-in developing and strengthening service-learning programs in their institutions and their communities and beyond.
