Board Recognizes DSU Student Organizations
The South Dakota Board of Regents will honor three outstanding student organizations on the Dakota State University campus Friday with special awards for academic excellence, community service, and organizational leadership.
• Award for Academic Excellence – The Women in Science and Technology organization provides many opportunities to students, faculty, and staff to advance academically, while creating lasting networks and new experiences for its members. The group has brought notable scientists to the DSU campus for lectures, offered its members a variety of educational travel experiences, and created $5,000 in scholarships for women choosing degrees in science and technology.
• Community Service Award – The Health Information Management Club opens membership to all students enrolled in or interested in health information management programs on the DSU campus. The club serves as a support system for students, helping them to gain a better understanding of the profession and future career opportunities. Service projects are created to benefit the local Madison community, as well as professionals in the field.
• Award for Organizational Leadership – Projects undertaken by the Students in Free Enterprise group are organized around five main goals: financial literacy, success skills, market economics, ethics, and entrepreneurship. Members are required to participate in two group projects and two activities throughout the academic year. The organization seeks to apply students’ skills in addressing the community’s needs and problems.
