DSU Hosts Cyber Defense Competition
Dakota State University will host the North Central Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) March 26-27 in Madison. Dakota State is one of only 8 campuses in the nation to host such an event. This is the second year DSU has hosted the CCDC completion. Dr. Pat Engebretson, Assistant Professor in the College of Business & Information Systems, is the North Central Regional Director.
CCDC is a two day competition that specifically focuses on the operational aspect of managing and protecting an existing commercial network infrastructure. Students get a chance to test their knowledge in an operational environment and to work with industry professionals.
Six teams from schools in South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming are participating. Each team will be given an operational network from a fictional business complete with data, email, website, and users. The teams will be required to correct problems on their network, perform business functions, and defend their network from cyber attackers.
Teams will be scored on their performance and the winning team will advance to the National CCDC in San Antonio, TX in April, 2010.
