DSU New Student Champion Scholarships
With five months remaining before the start of the 2010 fall semester, Dakota State University has offered over 220 Champion Scholarships to future DSU students. Students with an eligible high school grade point average and ACT/SAT score are automatically awarded one of three levels of Champion Scholarships; Presidential, Merit, and Achievement.
Champion Scholarships are renewable up to four years and are $8,600 for Champion Presidential Scholars, $6,600 for Champion Merit Scholars, and $2,000 for Champion Achievement Scholars.
Judy Payne, Vice President for University Advancement, attributes the growth in the Champion Scholarship program to recognition by top performing students of the value of a Dakota State University education. "Dakota State has a reputation of offering challenging majors in high-demand career fields. Couple that with access to DSU's cutting edge technology and the consistently high placement rates for our graduates, and it isn't hard to imagine why our enrollment is growing."
Champion Scholarships are funded by private donations. Donors are asked to sponsor a Champion Scholarship for four years, and are given the opportunity to meet their student recipient, and forge a relationship. "Sometimes this relationship has been maintained after the student graduates and the students have become akin to family with their donor," says Payne.
No separate scholarship application is necessary; awards are based on information obtained from the student's college admission application.
