New members of DSU Foundation Board

Tammy Miller and Darrel Simon are new Dakota State University Foundation Board of Trustees members. Each will serve a three-year term.

Miller is the Chief Executive Officer at Madison Community Hospital. She graduated from Dakota State in 1978 with an associate degree in office management, and again in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in business education and business administration. She earned her master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Minnesota in 1997.

Miller began working at the Madison Community Hospital while a student at Dakota State. Except for two years spent as CEO at Dell Rapids Community Hospital from 1994-1996, the majority of Miller’s 30 year career has been at MCH. She is a volunteer for DSU 2.0, The Capital Campaign Madison Area Committee. Miller is married to fellow Dakota State alum Mike, Class of 1978.

Simon attended anesthesia school at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, graduating in 1972. His first job was as the anesthetist at the Madison Community Hospital, where he has remained for 38 years. Simon received his undergraduate degree from Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He is a volunteer for DSU 2.0, The Capital Campaign Madison Area Committee. Darrel and wife Patti live in Madison.

Alice Poppen, Chair of the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees, said Miller and Simon join a group of dedicated board members. “We are fortunate to have these very qualified, philanthropic, people who care about Madison, about education, and about Dakota State, joining the dedicated people currently serving on the board.”

Dakota State University Foundation Board of Trustees members go through a formal nomination process through committee and are voted on by the entire board.

As Dakota State University’s fundraising partner, the DSU Foundation focuses on developing the resources needed to sustain excellence at the university. The Foundation is dedicated to maximizing private support for the benefit of DSU, and committed to responsible stewardship of donors’ gifts.
