Local Students Awarded Madison Rotary Scholarships for DSU
The Madison Rotary scholarship committee has selected three incoming DSU freshman from the area as recipients of scholarships for 2010-2011. This year's recipients are Mariah Cassutt, Oldham-Ramona High School, Amber Erpenbach, Howard High School, and Kevin Vogel, Madison High School.
The Madison Rotary Club established the annual scholarship at Dakota State in 1993. Recently the Rotary scholarship committee, chaired by Nancy Moose, Assistant Governor of Rotary District #5610, revised their scholarship criteria and agreement with Dakota State. The students chosen for the 2010-2011 awards were based on their high school location, grade point average, ACT score and are not related to a current Rotary member.
Established in 1929, the Madison Rotary Club is a member of Rotary International. Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto 'Service Above Self'.
Along with the annual DSU scholarships, the Madison Rotary has given support to various community activities and programs including Boys State, Meals on Wheels, the Food Pantry, the local Red Cross, Eagle Scout projects, and international exchange students attending school in the Madison area.
