Sudenga Recognized with Terry Ryan Service Award
Carla Sudenga will be presented the Terry Ryan Service Award this weekend at Dakota State University.
Sudenga will be honored at halftime of the Trojan men's game on Saturday, February 13. The Trojans take on South Dakota School of Mines at 6:00pm. The Trojan women play at 4:00pm.
The Terry Ryan Service Award was established in 2003 to recognize service, dedication, and commitment to Dakota State Athletics. Ryan was named Vice President/Dean of Student Affairs Emeritus and Instructor Emeritus of Mathematics upon his retirement from DSU in 2003. He continues to serve DSU as an adjunct faculty member, and remains a familiar face behind the scorer's table at DSU athletic events. Ryan and his wife, current faculty member Lynn, are long-term supporters of both annual and endowed DSU student scholarships.
Sudenga began her career at Dakota State in 1983 in the Registrar's Office. She moved to the Athletic Department in 1984 where she remained until 1987, when she left DSU to work for Farm Credit Services. She returned to DSU in 1988 and stayed with the Athletic Department until 2003, when she took a position with the DSU Business Office. She remained there a year before returning to Athletics where she currently serves as Senior Secretary.
While at DSU, Sudenga has worked under 6 athletic directors, and she has seen numerous coaches come and go. "It has been my pleasure to work for and with over 5,000 athletes during my years at DSU. I have had contact with many parents and the general public as well," says Sudenga. She and partner Lonny Stoltenberg are also recognizable from the concessions stand where they serve fans at all DSU home contests.
Besides her work for Athletics, Sudenga has served on various DSU committees including: DSU Golf Classic, Barn Dance and Dakota Jam, Parking, Caring, Athletic, Athletic Hall of Fame, Institutional Effectiveness, Title IX, and numerous Search and Screens. She has also served as president of the Career Service Association on campus and has been a member of the Campus Community Emergency Response Team since 2004.
Sudenga is a native of Ruthton, MN. She has three sons and 6 grandchildren.
