DSU Alum Named Sioux Falls Teacher of the Year

Teresa Timmerman, a 2003 Dakota State University graduate, has been named the 2010 John W. Harris Teacher of the Year for the Sioux Falls School District.

Timmerman, originally from Canada, was recruited to play basketball at DSU. After graduating from DSU, she taught in Tracy, MN before joining the staff at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School. At Lincoln, Timmerman teaches algebra skills classes to struggling students and Advancement Placement statistics to high-achievers.

Timmerman received a master of administrative studies from the University of Sioux Falls and plans to leave active teaching at the end of the school year to pursue a Ph.D in math education at the University of Alberta. Her goal is to become a university professor and train the next generation of math teachers.
