WIST Hosts Science and Technology Careers in Mathematics Workshop
Dakota State University Women in Science and Technology (WIST) organization is hosting a workshop entitled Careers in Mathematics, Monday, March 15. The workshop will run from 9:00am to 11:30am in the lower level of the Mundt Foundation on the DSU campus.
The workshop will consist of a panel discussion by four women working in science and technology oriented fields, describing their careers and career paths, as well as a question and answer session. There will also be opportunities for hands-on science, math and computer activities.
The panelists include Janice Berman, Jan Martin, Sheila Gartke, and Melissa De Jong.
Janice Berman is the Senior Director of Customer Energy Efficiency, Solar, and Product Development Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
Jan Martin is the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) State Coordinator along with performing other data and assessment-related duties for the South Dakota Department of Education.
Sheila Gartke is an Assistant Vice President/Financial Reporting Actuary at Midland National Life in Sioux Falls, SD.
Melissa De Jong teaches at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls and has started a new adventure with her Algebra 1 classes: Mastery Learning with Vodcasting.
The workshop is sponsored by Women in Science and Technology at DSU with the help of AAUW and NASA Space Consortium grants.
