DSU Alumni tree on display at capitol
The Dakota State University Alumni Association is taking part in the annual Christmas at the Capitol display in Pierre. The display includes decorated trees from organizations across the state of South Dakota.
DSU Alumni Director, Jona Schmidt, and DSU Event Coordinator, Donna Fawbush, traveled to Pierre to decorate the tree. "This is the first year we have done a tree for the capitol display," says Schmidt, "so we weren't quite sure what to expect." What they found waiting was a twelve-foot tree, which they decorated with transparent bulbs that included photos of campus buildings, the DSU logo, and the DSU seal, along with gold lights, ribbon and a starburst tree topper. The DSU tree is along the west corridor on the main floor of the capitol building, just steps away from the Governor's office.
This is the 31st year for Christmas at the Capitol, which includes nearly 100 decorated trees. A group of Pierre-area volunteers helps coordinate the tree decorating, and serve as greeters to those who come to visit the Capitol. The official opening is Nov. 23, with the trees remaining on display through Dec. 27.
