Dakota State students earn recognition
Student organizations at Dakota State University were recognized this week by the South Dakota Board of Regents for their academic excellence, community service, and organizational leadership. The student groups honored were:
Award for Academic Excellence – Phi Beta Lambda brings business and education interests together in a positive working relationship, through innovative leadership and career development programs. Members build their resumes, network with business leaders in their community and beyond, get involved in volunteerism, and enjoy special activities. The focus is on professional and leadership development and community service opportunities.
Community Service Award –Students in Free Enterprise apply their knowledge of financial literacy, success skills, market economics, ethics, and entrepreneurship to community needs and problems. Members are asked to participate in two group projects and two activities during the academic year. Teams compete regionally in project competitions, where the design, execution, and value of their community service projects are judged by outside experts.
Award for Organizational Leadership – The inclusive Dakota State University Diversity Student Union, also known as DSU2 (DSU-Squared), is a cultural student organization open to all DSU students. Rather than create separate student groups based on racial identification, this group chose to serve as a source of information for, and liaison between, all students interested in diversity. The group sponsors culturally-relevant activities and presentations, while promoting social interaction for its members with the greater student body and the local community.
