DSU Annual Gala Friday
Dakota State University will host the annual gala Friday, July 22 at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse. The annual fundraising event is open to the public. Tickets are available for $75 from the DSU Foundation.
Gala chairs this year are Don and Patty Gross of Madison, and Max Hodgen and Suzy Collignon-Hodgen of Sioux Falls.
Don Gross is a 1970 Dakota State graduate. He recently retired from Prostrollo's, where he served as the finance and lease manager for 31 years. Patty is a retired registered nurse from the Madison Community Hospital and Madison Community Health. She was the Lake County Health Nurse for 27 years. Max Hodgen graduated from DSU in 1997 as an undergrad, and again in 1999 with a second degree. He will receive his masters from DSU in education technology this August. He currently teaches physics and algebra, and is the head football coach at Madison Central High School. Suzy Collignon-Hodgen is a 1997 DSU graduate, currently serving as Director of Project Management for Avera Health and Regional Information Officer for the Avera Marshall Region.
This year's gala theme is "Get in Touch with Your Inner Outlaw!" Everything from the décor, to the menu, to select items in the live and silent auction have a western flair. The Andy Gibson Band will provide music for the gala, which starts at 6:00pm with social hour, and runs until midnight.
The gala was originally started by a group of volunteers from the Madison community as an annual fundraiser. Each year the group chose a theme, and designed the gala around the theme. The tradition continued when responsibility for the gala was transferred to the DSU Foundation Office. Over the years, the money raised from the gala has been used to support scholarship activity and other DSU programming.
