DSU Student Awarded Scholarship
Dakota State University student Amy Pheneger received a 2011 Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship. The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AHPERD) awards the$1,250 scholarship.
Students submit a scholarship application outlining their scholastic proficiency, evidence of leadership, school, community, and professional activities and service. The scholarships are given to just three undergraduate students and two graduate students each year. The 2010 scholarship winners were from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Slippery Rock University, PA, and the University of Northern Colorado.
Pheneger is a senior physical education major from Champlin, MN. She is the founder and president of the DSU Physical Education Club; a member of the DSU Diversity Student Union; member of the DSU Exercise Science Club; board member and student representative for South Dakota AHPERD; member of Kappa Sigma Iota Honor Society; and a DSU Student Ambassador.
Also active in sports, Pheneger is a member of the DSU Volleyball team and the current team captain. She is also a member of the DSU Track team.
