Representative from Egyptian university visits DSU
Dakota State University had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Amr Adel Aziz Youssef, from the Arab Academy for Science & Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST) in Alexandria, Egypt Monday, Nov. 7 through Wednesday, Nov. 9. Dr. Youssef is the Chairman of Finance and Accounting for AAST and came to campus to discuss potential exchange opportunities for students and faculty as well as other areas of cooperation between the universities.
Dr. Youssef visited with students and faculty interested in participating in the exchange, including Dr. Deb Tech and students who took part in a study tour to Egypt last winter. Dr. Knowlton and other university officials also met with Dr. Youssef to help strengthen and expand cooperative efforts between the universities.
Currently, DSU has three agreements in place with AAST: faculty exchange, student exchange and a study abroad option. The student exchange allows AAST students to come to DSU to complete one of the business administration degree programs offered. AAST students can also earn two degrees, one from DSU and one from AAST. The first cohort of AAST students will come to DSU in Spring 2012 as part of that student exchange agreement.
Dr. Omar El-Gayar, dean of graduate studies & research and professor, played an integral role in bringing the two universities together. "Dr. Youssef's visit is a significant milestone in our relationship with AAST. It was a pleasure having him on campus," stated Dr. El-Gayar. "I look forward to many years of a fruitful and beneficial relationship for students and faculty of both institutions."
