DSU doctoral student and professor present at ICIS

Ken Pinaire, a Dakota State University doctor of science in information systems student with a concentration in healthcare informatics, along with Surendra Sarnikar, DSU faculty advisor and associate professor of information systems, will present their research at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2012 on Dec. 16, in Orlando, Fla. The theme of ICIS 2012 is “Digital Innovation in the Service Economy.”

Pinaire and Sarnikar’s research paper, “Identifying Optimal IT Portfolios to Promote Healthcare Quality,” describes a new data mining approach for identifying optimal information technology portfolio’s that can help healthcare organizations achieve improvements in healthcare quality. This paper has also been nominated for the ICIS Best Paper Award in the “Research in Progress” category.

“I was thrilled just to be accepted for publication and presentation at ICIS, 2012. However, the nomination for Best Paper award was truly an honor. I’m excited about the opportunity to share our research with other scholars, and take away insights for future research,” said Pinaire.

Pinaire stated his reasoning behind the research, “We are seeking to determine if synergies exist between groups of healthcare IT systems that would improve patient outcomes.”

Pinaire is from Richmond, Va., and among the first DSU doctoral students to present at the prestigious and highly competitive ICIS conference. He earned his master’s in business administration in international business from University of Texas at Dallas. In addition to his education, he has been working in the IT industry for more than 20 years.

ICIS is the major annual meeting of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), which has over 4,000 members representing universities in over 95 countries worldwide. It is the most prestigious gathering of academics and practitioners in the IS discipline, and provides a forum for networking and sharing of latest ideas and highest caliber scientific work among the IS professions.
