Dakota State University Foundation Gala Chairs Announced
Julie and Allan Gross and Megan and Floyd Rummel are the 2012 DSU Gala Co-Chairs. The Gala is Friday, July 13, at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse. In keeping with the Friday the 13th date, the theme for this year is “That Old Black Magic.”
After more than 25 years, the Gala remains the DSU Foundation’s premier fundraiser. Last year, the event brought in over $45,000. Proceeds are raised through ticket sales, donated auction items, and sponsorships. State Senator Russell and Jennie Olson and Aramark are the 2012 Gala sponsors.
“There is not another event like the Gala held in Madison,” says Julie. “It is a fun, relaxing evening where you can dress according to a theme, enjoy great food and friends, and as a bonus, support a great institution. The wide array of themes and entertainment has people talking about and looking forward to attending each year.” Julie is the Executive Director of the Lake Area Improvement Corporation and Allan is the Sales Manager at Prostrollo All America Auto Mall.
Co-chair Floyd Rummel agrees that the Gala is a fun social event, and emphasizes the cause that this particular fundraiser serves. “Dakota State continues to set record enrollments year after year and so the need for scholarship dollars has never been higher,” says Floyd. “Dakota State and the Foundation need our support so they can continue to recruit the best and brightest students to Madison.” Floyd is the Market President of Great Western Bank in Madison, and is the vice president of the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees. Megan works as an accountant at Citibank.
Staff in the Foundation office solicits items for the live and silent auction. This year several new items were added to the live auction, including a seven-day stay at a condominium at Casa del Mar Beach Resort in Longboat Key, Florida, and a two-night stay at Custer State Park, with transportation to and from the annual Buffalo Round-Up in September. Two popular live auction items from 2011 are available again: a seven-day stay at a Palm Springs condominium, and two rounds of golf for four at Sutton Bay. Additional auction items include a mini-suite at a Sioux Falls Skyforce game, an escorted trip up the mountain at Crazy Horse Memorial, a four-day stay in a Black Hills vacation home, Trojan Football Coach for the Day, a guided pheasant hunt, and a child’s John Deere 12 Volt Gator XUV.
Another new item on the auction block is a collection of wines, chosen and donated by members of the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees. “We were given the idea by one of our trustees,” said Vice President for University Advancement Judy Payne. “Each trustee was asked to select and purchase their favorite wine from one of four vendors, two in Madison, and two in Sioux Falls.” The wine will be put together and offered to the highest bidder.
Silent auction items include a spa package, a guided tour of the Sioux Falls Delbridge Zoo and Museum, artwork, décor, catered diners, hotel packages, jewelry and purses, beauty baskets, and two season passes to the Sioux Falls Community Theater.
The Andy Gibson Band is returning for a second year to provide music for dancing.
The Gala starts with a social hour at 6:00pm; dinner, the auction, and dancing will follow. Tickets are available through the DSU Foundation for $75. Contact 256-5693 for reservations.
