Green Casey Endowment Announcement
Mike Casey, Phoenix, AZ, has established the Maureen Green Casey Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Dakota State University in honor of his late wife Maureen, and in recognition of her posthumous induction into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
Casey’s gift was announced at the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame banquet. Maureen passed away in 2009. Mike attended the banquet to accept the award, along with numerous family members from both the Casey and the Green families.
The Maureen Green Casey Memorial Scholarship Endowment will provide academic scholarships to incoming freshman with a minimum 3.0 GPA and with demonstrated financial need.
In announcing the gift, DSU Vice President for Advancement Judy Payne said, “the Casey family and the Green family have deep Madison roots. Mike Casey’s grandparents Delos and Lois Casey owned Casey Drug and Jewelry in Madison, and were anonymous donors to scholarships at DSU. His aunt, Kathleen Casey Miller, attended college here and was Miss General Beadle State College in 1967. Maureen’s mother, Jeanne Green attended Dakota State when it was known as General Beadle, and all 13 of the Green children attended Dakota State, with seven of them having graduated from DSU.“
Maureen is a 1982 graduate of Dakota State, and was part of the first organized golf team at the university. She began her collegiate golf career at University of South Dakota, but transferred to DSU in 1981. Along with her sister Alice, and teammates Mary T. Grogan, Sara Egan, and Jane Rajewich, Maureen led the DSU golf team to first place in the AIAW Region Six Tournament in North Dakota. They qualified for the national tournament in North Carolina, where Casey took sixth place and earned All-American status.
