DSU to host the SDCPA Student Leadership Conference on Friday
The 2013 South Dakota College Personnel Association (SDCPA) Student Leadership Conference will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, in Madison, S.D. and hosted by Dakota State University.
This year, there are 95 people registered who represent eight colleges and universities in S.D. A few topics to be discussed at the conference include: Appreciative Leadership, Resiliency in Leadership, Leadership Lessons of Crazy Horse, and Bystander Interventions - Anti-bullying.
The presenters at the conference include undergraduate students, graduate students, and staff from various S.D. institutions, including DSU president, Dr. David Borofsky, presenting a session entitled “Leadership for Everyone.” Russ Olson, CEO of Heartland Consumers Power District, will deliver the closing keynote.
“This conference is a great opportunity for students to network with other student leaders and attend amazing breakout sessions. Our theme this year is ‘Leadership Pursuit: In the Pursuit of Excellence’. One of the unique things we will be doing with the conference delegates is providing them a StrengthsFinder code. Our general session in the morning will give them the chance to explore their own strengths and the impact they have on others,” said Mandy Parpart, conference co-chair.
The annual SDCPA student leadership conference is an opportunity for South Dakota student affairs professionals, graduate students and undergraduate students to discuss trends in leadership and promote student development and learning.
The SDCPA has been around for 35 years providing leadership in personnel work within the goals of higher education. SDCPA provides an opportunity, through a network and conferences, to work together productively and to share experiences and expertise to better serve higher education in South Dakota.
