VA Benefits Checklist
When you are ready to make the move to become a college student, you need to have some paperwork completed to receive your benefits. The paperwork will depend on which program or chapter you are under.
Chapter 30
Active Duty Military
- Most recent DD-214
- VA Form 22-1990 Application for Education Benefits or Form 22-1995 for transfer students
Chapter 31
VA Vocational Rehabilitation
- Meet with counselor from the regional VA Vocational Rehabilitation office (Sioux Falls or Rapid City)
- VA Form 22-1905 sent to school from counselor
Chapter 33
Post 9/11 Veterans
- Most recent DD-214
- VA Form 22-1990 Application for Education Benefits or Form 22-1995 for transfer students
- Any kicker paperwork
- Certificate of Eligibility from VA for DSU to pay percentage of tuition and fees
Chapter 35
Spouses and Children of Deceased or Disabled Veterans
- VA Form 22-5490 Application for Education Benefits or Form 22-5495 for transfer students
Chapter 1606
Army/Air National Guard/Reserve
- Most Recent DD-214 or NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
- VA Form 22-1990 Application for Education Benefits or Form 22-1995 for transfer students
- Any kicker paperwork
Chapter 1607
Army/Air National Guard/Reserves who have served overseas since 9/12/01
- Most recent DD-214 or NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
- VA Form 22-1990 Application for Education Benefits or Form 22-1995 for transfer students
- Any kicker paperwork
SD Free Tuition
SD resident Veterans who are no longer eligible for the GI Bill
- SDDVA Form E-11 signed by Sioux Falls official
