Faculty Research Initiative
The Faculty Research Initiative is a year-long program that engages up to 10 faculty members at the rank of associate professor or lower, in scholarly work. The focus of Faculty Research Initiative (FRI) activities is to work collaboratively through the year to develop a manuscript ready for submission to a peer reviewed publication, a presentation of scholarly work through a peer-reviewed venue in the discipline, and/or a proposal ready for submission to an external funding agency.
A Request for FRI Proposals is initiated at the beginning of the Fall semester. Awards of $1000 each are presented to the most competitive proposals submitted by the faculty.
The cohort of faculty award recipients then work throughout the academic year developing their individual project and respond to the development of projects being completed by their peers. This peer review activity has as its basis constructive criticism aimed at improving the reflective capacity of the researchers and the products they create. The review process is designed to promote discussion and exchange of ideas on research topics and will address methodology, content, and writing.
The FRI program is sponsored by the Center for Excellence and supported by the University Research Committee.
