Dakota State University students walking around campus

Changes made to fall academic calendar at DSU

June 3, 2020

Dakota State University will resume on-campus operations for the Fall 2020 semester, but the fall calendar has been changed in order to better balance the safety of those in the on-campus community with student success. This decision is made in conjunction with the Board of Regents (BOR) and other regental schools.

Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 19, and will conclude on November 24, just before Thanksgiving. This compressed calendar will reduce student travel days. Classes will also be in session on traditional holidays including Labor Day (Sept. 7), Native American Day (Oct. 12), and Veterans Day (Nov. 11). DSU is working to host relevant programming events to recognize the holidays.

Students will not return to campus after Thanksgiving break, but will finish final exams remotely.  In addition, Dakota State will not hold a December commencement; this ceremony will be combined with the Spring 2021 event, to celebrate graduates from both the fall and spring semesters.

All regental university campuses plan to be closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day to facilitate deep cleaning and other preparations for the spring semester.

Because of the dynamic and fluid nature of the pandemic, the university is considering protocols for a number of scenarios to be ready to respond to potential changes. For the most up-to-date information, go to the coronavirus alert pages at DSU.edu.
