Dakota State University students walking around campus

Preparation + opportunity = success

That's the DSU equation. We're a four-year university with nationally recognized programs, cutting-edge facilities, and the brightest thinkers. But we're also a tight-knit, inclusive community. Small class sizes mean hands-on training and individualized attention. All this with an affordable, public school price that's among the best values in the region.

Virtual Teach Camp returns May 30

May 16, 2023

Dakota State University’s virtual Teach Camp returns on Tuesday, May 30.

“We’re always looking for ways to provide relevant professional learning for K-12 leaders throughout the region,” said Dr. David De Jong, Dean of the College of Education.

DSU Teach Camp is a one-day virtual conference with all sessions held via Zoom. It is open to all PK-12 teachers.  The event is free, or $40, for participants who would like to receive one graduate credit.

De Jong is looking forward to learning from the dynamic speakers. “I love learning from the experts in the field, and the DSU Teach Camp is top-notch. We already have over 225 registered teachers who are looking forward to May 30.”

Some speakers will be DSU faculty members, while others include regional elementary, middle, and high school educators. Participants can choose from various sessions such as math tools, mental health, social skills, improving student engagement, and more.

This is the eighth year DSU will be offering the camp. In 2016, through an Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) grant, the College of Education offered DSU STEAM Camp. This one-day workshop focused on topics of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).

After the grant ended in 2019, DSU reworked the event into Teach Camp, available online to increase the number of attendees and provide sessions addressing all teaching areas instead of just STEAM.

“It’s the only professional learning of its kind in the state,” De Jong said.
