DSU art students win Beadlemania awards

Several Dakota State University student artists were honored at an April 26 artists’ reception held in the First Bank & Trust Gallery on the DSU campus.

Madison Central School District art instructors Holly Evans and Ginny Freitag were the jurors for the annual Beadlemania juried art exhibition. Beadle Hall is home to the College of Arts and Sciences at DSU.

Freitag said the pieces showed a “great diversity of work,” including photographs, two- and three-dimension artworks, wire sculptures, pottery and videos.

• First place – Emily Schroeder, photograph “Mason Jars”
• Second place – Samantha Nielsen, acrylic painting “Devils Tower”
• Third place –Nicole Frank, wire sculpture “Bear”
• Honorable mention – Haeun Yoon, photograph “Landscape”
• Honorable mention – Kenneth Olson, Vogue cover mixed media “Desire”
• Honorable mention – Haley Paulson, music video “Cigarette Daydreaming”
• Honorable mention – Emily Schroeder, photograph “Decaying Dwelling”
• Honorable mention – Samantha Nielsen, scratchboard “Scrutiny”
