March 19, 2015

DSU alumna, Kathleen Christiansen, was featured in MED magazine with her article, “How HIE/DIRECT Has Changed the Health Community.” Christiansen is a graduate of the Health Information Administration bachelor’s program and the Master of Science in Health Informatics from Dakota State University.

Her article talks about the Health Information Exchange DIRECT service and how it assists with the sharing of patient care documentation between medical providers. DIRECT is a secure and efficient messaging service that allows for the electronic exchange of these documents.

Christiansen is also an employee of SD Health Link, which connects hospitals, federally qualified health centers, primary care providers, specialists, labs, and pharmacies as well as public health and other state agencies. SD Health Link is a part of DSU’s Center for Advancement of Health Information Technology (CAHIT).
