DSU named #3 cybersecurity school by ‘Military Times’

Dakota State University has been ranked as one of the 10 best cybersecurity programs in the nation for veterans and military students. Dakota State placed third out of the more than 600 colleges and universities that participated in a 2018 “Military Times” survey.

This is the university’s third such distinction in six months. Last fall, DSU was named a Military Friendly School by Victory Media for the seventh year in a row, an honor reserved for the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that embrace military students and dedicate resources to ensure their success. In November, DSU was named a Military Times Best (formerly Best for Vets) school, placing 32nd out of 218 institutions.

"The greatest cyber security issue in our nation is that there are too many threats and too few cybersecurity professionals," said José-Marie Griffiths, president of Dakota State University. "By combining their military experience with the skills gained through our strong cybersecurity program, the men and women in our nation's military are ideally suited to join the ranks as 'cyber warriors,' working for government entities and businesses across the nation." 

The cybersecurity ranking methodology considers the Military Times Best ranking, along with distinctions earned from the National Security Agency (NSA). Dakota State University has four Center of Academic Excellence designations from the NSA and Department of Homeland Security, one of two universities in the nation with four or more. DSU is also one of two universities in the country that partners with the NSA National Cryptologic School, an opportunity that allows NSA military and civilian employees to finish their associate, bachelor's, or graduate degrees in cyber operations.

“DSU will also offer active military members reduced tuition starting in summer 2018, a sign that Dakota State University’s commitment to soldiers in the military will continue,” said Griffiths.
