Podhradsky named associate dean at DSU

September 27, 2018

Dr. Ashley Podhradsky has been named the associate dean of The Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences at Dakota State University.

In this newly created position, she will be working on a number of projects which will help the college succeed, such as online program and quality assurance effort, and college marketing. She will also be working on new programs, such as mentoring efforts for new faculty.

“Much effort is put forward to bring talented faculty to DSU,” she said. “This mentoring program will make sure they have the resources for teaching, research, and service to be successful,” she said.

She is also working with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) to receive accreditation for the oldest program in The Beacom College, computer science, which has been a program of study since 1989.

“These are all things that need to be done for the success of the college and my colleagues in the department,” Podhradsky said. “It is an honor to have the trust of the administration to move my career in this direction,” she said, “and to learn and grow my skill set in these areas.”

A native of Flandreau, S.D., she has been at DSU for eight years. She will continue to be an associate professor of information assurance and forensics and will teach undergraduate and graduate forensics.

Podhradsky has also been asked to continue as a New America Cybersecurity Fellow. She spent last year working with the non-partisan think tank based in Washington, D.C., whose purpose is to provide guidance to policy makers on emerging topics within cyber security.

“This opportunity brings Dakota State and The Beacom College to the table with a group of accomplished people from industry, academia, and government,” Podhradsky said. By participating in this group, she has had been able to cross paths with people such as Liza Mundy, the bestselling author of Code Girls, who spoke on campus last spring.
