7th biennial art exhibition makes last stop in sioux falls

September 28, 2017

The South Dakota Governor’s 7th Biennial Art Exhibition is making the final stop on its state-wide tour, opening at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls on Sept. 30.

Three Dakota State University faculty members, Jeff Ballard, Angela Behrends and Alan Montgomery, are among the artists whose works are featured in the exhibit.

The South Dakota Governor’s Biennial Art Exhibition was established in 2003 to recognize and encourage South Dakota artists and to promote the artistic identity of South Dakota. It celebrates the cultural and artistic heritage as well as the future of South Dakota. This juried exhibition is the premier showcase for the most important and innovative contemporary artists currently living and working in South Dakota.

A total of 360 entries were submitted for the 7th biennial exhibit, and 51 works were chosen. Since opening last fall, the exhibit has traveled to several venues around the state, including the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings, S.D., and the John A. Day Gallery at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. The display will be featured at the Visual Arts Center in the Washington Pavilion of Art and Sciences from September 30 to January 15, 2018. An artists’ reception is slated for October 6 in the Pavilion’s Everist Gallery, from 5 to 8 p.m., with artists’ talks at 6 p.m.

The Washington Pavilion is located at 301 South Main Avenue in Sioux Falls.
