Dakota State University students walking around campus

Preparation + opportunity = success

That's the DSU equation. We're a four-year university with nationally recognized programs, cutting-edge facilities, and the brightest thinkers. But we're also a tight-knit, inclusive community. Small class sizes mean hands-on training and individualized attention. All this with an affordable, public school price that's among the best values in the region.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee Charter

I. COMMITTEE MISSION

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee is committed to sustaining an ongoing campus on which equity, diversity, and inclusion are integrated into its students’ lives. Equity means treating all community members in a fair and impartial way. Diversity means individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, intellectual and cultural perspective, and lived experience drive social vitality and innovation. Inclusion happens through appreciating, accepting, and tending to the needs of diverse groups and individuals through their equitable and active participation in learning and working activities at DSU.

Diverse groups and individuals possess gifts, talents, experiences, histories, and cultures that allow them to make valuable contributions to the educational mission of the institution and to all those associated with it. A rich mixture of cultures, perspectives, and experiences contribute to a positive and vibrant campus climate that benefits all students. Furthermore, equity, diversity, and inclusion can be utilized to help prepare students for living and working in an increasingly complex and global society.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are key to DSU’s success and intend to be embraced by all stakeholders. To that end, DSU is committed to a systematic, intentional, comprehensive, and holistic approach to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The Committee for EDI will accomplish its mission through coordinating campus activities based upon participant education surrounding important EDI concepts and perspectives. Those activities are designed to engage all students and bring those with varied backgrounds together, to build student relationships and prepare them for success beyond graduation.
