SDBOR Policy 2:29 Academic Program Student Credit Hour Requirements |
I. REASON FOR THIS POLICY
Student enrollment and overload status is defined in SDBOR Policy 2:29. This DSU policy clarifies areas that are noted as campus discretion in the SDBOR policy.
II. DEFINITIONS
Course Student Load: The number of allowable credit hours per term.
III. STATEMENT OF POLICY
- Academic school terms include summer, fall, and Inclusive dates are published in the University academic calendar and class schedule.
- At DSU, full-time, part-time, half-time, and overload status are defined on a per term basis as follows:
- Undergraduate:
- Full-time: 12 or more credits
- Part-time: 1-11 credits
- Half-time: 6-11 credits
- Overload: 18 or more credits
- Graduate:
- Full-time: 6 or more credits
- Part-time: 1-5 credits
- Half-time: 3 credits
- Overload: 12 or more credits

IV. PROCEDURES
- Determination of Load. Courses conducted on less than full-term schedules will be considered in the credit total for the term during which the course starts for purposes of credit load. Courses for which the student is registered as an auditor may not be considered in the term total for determination of full-time/part-time status but will be considered in determining overload status.
- Reporting. For purposes of external reporting, DSU will follow definitions outlined for such reporting, which may differ from the DSU definitions listed above.
